Cattle mutilation has been reported across rural America for more than fifty years and the description barely changes: clean surgical cuts, organs removed, little or no blood, no tracks and no predator sign.
The San Luis Valley is where the modern phenomenon began. In September 1967 a mare named Lady, misreported ever since as "Snippy," was found mutilated in this same valley, and became the first case in the country tied to UFOs in the national press. Colorado logged as many as 200 reported cases in 1975 alone. That September, Senator Floyd Haskell asked the FBI to open an investigation. The FBI declined for lack of jurisdiction. A federally funded inquiry in 1980 concluded predators. Ranchers kept finding them anyway, and Linda Moulton Howe built a career on the cases that answer never covered.
